KANAYA: (You Do Realize I Spoke To Jade Plenty Of Times Myself)
KARKAT: (YOU DID?)
KARKAT: (OH YEAH)
KARKAT: (I GUESS I FORGOT ABOUT THAT)

Sometimes I wonder if Hussie is aware about the fact that he just... stops developing relationships all the time when they become inconvenient haha

Also Karkat remains firmly the owner of the best dialogue in the comic... or at least he did ?!?!!?!?! dundun duuuuun

Welp. Seems like Mind controled Jane barely managed to avoid the same affliction that new!Feferi and new!Nepeta has.

we all know Karkat will come back

unless John fucks something up

Hamsteak!

And what if these events are permanent?

Well, at least it's safe to say HIC's plan ultimately fails, unless Alterniaearth ends up dying out before the Cherub lands on it, so that's a small relief.

And yay, elaboration on Maid of Life powers! I really hope Jane and Jade realize they've screwed up a tad by killing Karkat early, because if people really do only get one free revival, then they have to use Karkat's now, and since Karkat is no doubt going to be necessary later, they can't actually kill him again later since that should be permadeath.

And Kanaya makes an excellent point about the whole living/undead situation, considering how Rainbow Drinker powers seem to biologically inherent in the jade blood caste. It feels weird that HIC wouldn't have that figured out, unless Jade and Jane just weren't told that.

John's about to get himself perma-killed isn't he?
(Actually my guess is he's about to get himself killed in a way that looks permanent but isn't.)

And while I'm making depressing predictions, here's another one: Jade and Jane aren't gonna be not-evil until the very end. Because the whole story so far has been about them being apart, it makes the most structural sense to close that theme at the climax.

That would be pretty terrible, because even though Jade has been brainwashed, at least she still carry on in any conversation.

Jane however has been 'fridged' as far as any type of personality so far.

Yeah that would be pretty damn awful. Jane already struggles with the shadow of the other kids, Hussie giving her kickass powers and major plot importance would mean nothing to me if he just turns her into a mute walking plot device for Jade to drag around.

Fingers seriously crossed that's not her lot in the remainder of this comic.

Also, this update seems to sort of confirm that the kids+trolls were successful in creating the new universe--which became the Calliope+Caliborn universe and that the troll race were successfully repopulated(and destroyed by the Cherub father).

I wonder the theories about the A1 universe being created by the kids session end up being true and everyone are all trapped in some huge double mobius reach around. That would also be terrible since that would mean ultimately everyone done everything for nothing.

I may have been jumping the gun to say the megapause was totally over. It is mostly over, but there are going to be scattered minipauses here and there. I still have a lot going on. Some more cons to go to in July. Expect a couple more blackout weeks. After that the pace will probably start to pick up again.

WELP. Time to turn off the old notifier.

Comic ending next year seems more likelier and likelier.

I was not expecting a total end of the hiatus until at the very least after SDCC so this doesn't surprise me too much.

I'm getting really annoyed of Grimbark Jade. It's like we're back in Act 2 level of Mary Sue-ishness and ability, which I thought we were past that with the character development in Act 5 Part 2.

It's been making these updates bitter, even if we're getting plot progression.

I'm not sure how she is a Mary Sue if she's Jade with her mind fucked up with, her bitchiness(no pun intended) turned up to 11, and being coerced to do things she normally won't do. Not to mention, everyone is creeped out by her current condition. That said, whenever she does snap out of it, she probably going to have a huge meltdown assuming she remembers what she did to her friends/potential friends.

That said the updates a kind of a bummer, even though there still are really funny conversations, because the characters instead of freely discovering things on their own terms and interacting with the new kids and old pals after 3 years of doing nothing are forced to do tasks for the Emperess' goals since that's where the plot is now. It feels unnatural for the HIC to be involved in a game where one of the purpose is for the players to solve their own problems naturally and discover themselves that as they head into adulthood. The HIC is somewhat reminiscent of the spiral sucker in the Trickster Arc.

I've been getting bored of Homestuck for awhile even if the plot have picked up for a bit. The hiatuses and glacial pacing does not help.

Heheheh, we MSPA fans are so spoiled in the update speed department.

Since when did HIC ever care about the players? She's using them as a means to an end, that's pretty much it.

I'll agree on being annoyed by the Grimbark thing, though "Mary Sue" doesn't seem right. "Deus ex machina", maybe. We have no real explanation how she's being mindcontrolled-yet-herself, in a way that really looks more like brainwashing than anything HIC is supposed to have special powers for. She's just far too lucid to be a believable kind of creepy. (This works about right for Jane though, but the 'fridge' point holds for her I think.)

Also yeah if Jade doesn't have a meltdown once she's back to normal, I'm calling bullshit.

Anyway, we still have plenty of unaccounted for variables though so let's not call the plot's direction a foregone conclusion? Let's see if Spades Slick and/or Union Jack and/or the ghost crew and/or Nannasprite (i.e. a sane version of Jane) and/or the Stridersprites manage to toss any curveballs somewhere here.

…And I have to wonder if any part of the hiatus involves Hussie trying to figure out how to tie together all the plot threads hanging here? He's neglected some of them long enough (when was the last time we saw Nannasprite actually doing anything? in passing around late Scratchstuck?), wouldn't be a surprize if new elements have forced rethinking where to take things.
