I'm not actually so sure if we're supposed to hate Caliborn. I think we're supposed to recognize that he's an incredibly shitty dude but also find him very funny, which he is, and perhaps mildly pity his fundamental struggles with reasoning, problem-solving, and existence.

But we are supposed to like Calliope, as you say, and boy howdy did I not ever do that thing.

Welp, I guess I wont be checking this thread for a while.

Its getting to the point to where I'm rooting for Caliborn to just erase everyone.

I've been secretly rooting for him for awhile because it seems he's one of the few proactive characters at this point despite being a complete unredeemable douchenozzle. It also helps that I find him funny--especially with the convos with Hussie(I'm with Beelze in that it's mostly the only time I like the self-insert interacting with the characters)

Grimbark Jade though.. The problem is her dialog is just... BLAH. She cannot do the evil minion bit at all. It's like Hussie took the worst of Jade and combined it with the worst of Meenah.

That's the point though. She's a lousy evil minion that is Jade turned to super high-bitch mode(no pun intended) and being brainwashed/life-corrupted by an awful alternative version of Ruler!Meenah and reduced to follow her orders.

Hussie needs to slow down.

The pacing has always been one of the bigger issues of Homestuck. It feels like it's being rushed and dragging on at the same time.

Anyway, Spitfire, you didn't seem to feel anything for Rose these past few updates?

Now I'm curious what are your issues with Calliope?

She and Aranea entered the story at the wrong time; that is to say, in tandem with each other, clogging up early act six by being exposition fairies without enough character beyond "sweet and kinda awkward!" to justify all the endless yapping they did.

Since Hussie eased off a lot on both characters, I no longer rank either of them among my active grievances with the comic, but it's very easy for me to declare Caliborn much the better character in every respect than Calliope.

("No longer", I say, but Jesus Christ, if it turns out the only one who can stop Lord English is Lady English.............)

Yeah he has been rather proactive but that's just who he IS. Caliborn does not mope around about his existence. He just overcomes his obstacles. I vaguely remember how I phrased this back when Vriska gave her Wreck-It-Ralph speech but it's true that for all his misnogystic, murderous, self-centered, jerkface assbaggery he's a better person than Vriska. Because he actually learns and develops instead of being static. THE most self-centered character in the whole of HS becomes the master of teamwork.

Caliborn is just interesting as hell.

I don't think the point of Grimbark Jade is for us to realize she makes a shitty villain. The point is she has the most power out of the Beta kids and is easily mind-controlled, and Condy uses her because she's useful. I just question why she had to open her mouth ever because it's just aggravating to read. Jane is far more interesting if you ask me, and she barely says anything.

And no not really for Rose. I didn't feel anything for Dave reforging his sword either and that's one of the reasons I read this damn thing in the first place.

Like I said. I'm starting to really lose my patience as major character moments are being downplayed like crazy in the name of expediency. Its hard for me to care. Sure Hussie has compressed things before but its just hurting him now.

I don't suppose I could ask for this stuff to be moved to the "Wrong with Homestuck Thread" without killing the conversation, could I? Because I really wanna see where it goes, but this isn't quite the most relevant thread.

I think that sounds like the best option, seeing where this thread was heading. That way everyone wins.

Some of the complaints are relevant since deals with the stuff that recently happened in the past few updates--such as skipping the reunion and some general apathy for recently featured characters. Though with the stuff with Calliope vs Caliborn and how Hussie handled them I guess that would feel a bit more at home with the What's Wrong with Homestuck thread.

I've just been having a stressful week, guess I'm a little on edge. Sorry. But I'm mostly staying out of the thread because I just want to enjoy what's left of Homestuck.

It is true that the conversation is relevant to a recent updates thread, but I would argue it's more relevant to the complaints thread.

But, more importantly, and regardless of which it's more relevant to, this thread will always be active as long as there ares updates, while the other one subsists solely on quality-related discussion.

@LC: But I wanna hear what you were gonna say! I'm interested!

Go back to your rejoicing over the comic everybody.

^Don't say that. I like hearing what people have to say about this kind of thing, regardless of whether I agree or not. And I never did say I disagreed.

I concur, all people's opinions and thoughts on the comic should be welcomed here.
