Should I use the author tag for the author of original picture (if I can find him/her)?

I don't think you need to bother, assuming that person's not in the Homestuck fanart community. That would kind of open up a can of worms (do we need an artist tag for every movie/TV actor who appears in an 1s_th1s_you picture?). Though if you can find the source of the original picture, you might at least post it and credit the artist in a comment, if you feel like that.
