I tried playing Off, and the french puzzles/tedious numerical memorization and bad/boring combat turned me off of it. I think it's cool that there's such a fandom for it, though.

If you look at Off as a combat game then yeah you will be pretty disappointed. The combat is pretty much just a side thing that kinda had to happen due to... well it being an rpg maker game. It's definitely not the main draw or anything close. I thought the puzzles were pretty interesting and quite honestly the biggest draw to me was the world, story and the characters. I almost view it more as an interactive novel then a true video game. They're brilliant and exactly the reason why the game has a fandom at all let alone the substantial one it does have.

Did you beat a zone and return to see what happened after you beat it?

Off is mostly atmospheric though I did enjoy the puzzles. Part of its point is that it is a puzzle game though.

Also the somewhat tedious combat can be made better if you auto through a lot of it.

Yeah, I'm considering just finding a good LP of it or something, for the story alone. And no, Anonymous I hadn't. Upon revisiting Zone 1, I sincerely wish I continued to hadn't :(.
