It's annoying because water pertains to plenty of characters who aren't John or Karkat. Feferi, Rose, Meenah, Eridan, you could make a stretching case for Jane. Look at all those awesome ladies (and Eridan). But nobody makes art of underwater John/Feferi, or underwater Karkat/Rose. Fanart like this is representative of a misogynist attitude that disregards female characters. Shameless slashers appropriate character elements so they can put their hot yaois in OOC situations.
