There's probably a math formula at work here. Like, as users and anons increase linearly, net interest in pushing images into the top picks pool increases exponentially.

I was thinking about that earlier today. But I feel like if that were to happen, the only result is that everyone would pick their two or three favorite top picks and say "all right now we need five more votes to get it to 25!" and nothing would really get pruned out. Nor do I think it would really make it that much harder for new images to make it into the pool, either.

An image either has upvote momentum or it doesn't and once it does then there's really no stopping it. If we increased the top pic vote requirement then that would just increase the "attention span" of the community, so to speak. I mean if we really drastically raised the bar, to like 40 upvotes, then you'd see images pooping out and losing momentum before they made it. That's what it'd take, though.

Honestly I'm comfortable with the current state of affairs, if only because it's so much fun to get into that "push! push! push!" mentality.
