I like this theory, but I think that the reason their skin is paper white may be due to the fact that AH just liked it that way. As for lack of navels and so on, I also think this is part of the character design. Due to the method in which Homestuck is created, I don't think AH wanted to add a lot of detail beings as he had to redraw them almost every panel. You can see in the flash animations that they do infact have arms and noses and so on. I believe a lot of this is up for debate, but I personally think most of it has to do with character design (I'm sure the guardians have facial features, but, again, I think this was due to the fact that AH wanted their character design to differ from that of the children's.)

There are a lot of good points made in this though, such as the eye color and genetic continuum! It was really interesting to see this idea!
