What with the secret weapon juju and the John-related temporal shenanigans that came with it, I wouldn't be surprised if the way to off Lord English turns out to be something like this.

Granted, I'm not certain Slick would be the one to do it, but still.

^Offing Caliborn wouldn't do a thing to Lord English because all it would accomplish would be to split off a doomed timeline. If those cherubs are the same person, then LE has a distinct advantage over Slick in that he would remember what happens.
