Rose going grimdark was always super sad to me. She was always articulate. Always had complete control over the things she said, and now even her best friends can’t understand her.
I'll add the artists comments here, it adds quite a bit to the picture.

She's smart enough to figure out to try writing if she really wanted to communicate something.
…Which arguably may make the situation sadder yet though since she seems to have stopped caring about that too.
