If Homestuck was a high-school anime, Mierfa and Nektan would be those two guys with little-to-no plot significance.

A running gag would have Mierfa excitedly come up with some ill-advised investment which she'd rope Nektan into through some convincing. ("You'd look like a badass!" "You'd get enough dough to finish those inventions!" "You'd be the belle of the ball!")
