I now picture Jane crying in her room when someone knocks at the door. She just yells to the person to go away, but they insist and keep knocking. So Jane gets fed up, opens the door and decks the person on the other side in the face... only to find out she just punched John out.

Yeah I think you're getting it pretty confused man. Jake was the one heavily vilified after that talk. And quite honestly the people vilifying Jane at all were the very small vocal minority as usual. We gotta be careful to remember that always, though i know it can be difficult at times.

Also she could in theory gain that echeladder rank through simply believing her Dad is dead without him necessary being dead. Perhaps the dispair she's currently feeling pushes her there no matter what. Maybe that was part of the plan.
