I don't trust Hal for shit myself, people seem to be falling for what (to me) seems like really blatant emotional manipulation of Dirk by Hal.

Also Iunno the thoughts that seem to be creeping in that maybe Gamzee isn't totally just pure evil kind of make him more mysterious to me. I know to some people him having helpful motives would ruin everything but... Iunno. Mysterious guy, that Gamzee.

Anybody who has seen 2001: A Space Odyssey wouldn't trust Hal as far as they could throw him. I mean, since when has a computer becoming sentient spell good news? And don't even get me started on the manipulation of Dirk's mind. As for the whole "I'm afraid not to exist" thing, I could say he meant half-heartedly, just because of what we've seen of him so far, with the manipulation and such.

Anyway, Gamzee IS coming off as less evil, more strangely mysterious than he did before.

Lil Hal brought up the fact that they were the same person five times in that conversation. Hal obviously takes issue with the face that, like Davesprite, he isn't considered the real Strider. I dunno what his schemes are or what they imply for anybody, but that conversation didn't feel as much about emotional manipulation as it did a clash of different sides of Dirk, that are both Dirk, and don't like it.

and one of the Dirks left that conversation with some totally not symbolic cracked shades.

Of course he doesn't want to die. He's very much in the interest of self preservation. I don't think he was lying about that part, he might not have even been lying about the fear (though that brings up the interesting thought that if Hal is capable of legitimate emotion such as fear, his complete lack of it regarding Dirk is somewhat creepy... he's very robotic with Dirk, lacking any sort of legitimate empathy or positive feelings for this kid he's supposed to be like. I understand jealousy is a powerful thing, but he doesn't even act upset, he just acts suitably cold and robotic, peppered with passive aggressive taunting and provoking almost but then all of a sudden when he's about to get snapped he's busting out the fear card) but that doesn't mean his motives aren't suspect as hell and he creeps me out. Dirk himself called Lil Hal out on his passive aggressive tendencies, and yeah Dirk has some of that too, but if you really think Hal's gonna be content /just/ with having a body, then I disagree. Davesprite was always looking for validation, Hal to me is looking for a means to enact his plans. Has he ever had issue with anyone else calling him a super computer? (links please if he has, my memory is a tad fuzzy). He chose a different name, he's aware he is a computer. He's aware he's different, though that's not to say he doesn't /want/ to be the "real Dirk" I just don't buy into the "I wanna be a real boy so I can get hugs and live happily ever after" I just don't. It feels like manipulation to me, maybe I'm just being real insensitive I don't know. But I'm just not buying what the shades are selling at the moment.

Yes Hal and Dirk are essentially the same person, Hal has indeed insisted as much though again to me it's always felt like more reminding Dirk that what he hates about Hal is what he hates about himself (a fact that quite obviously after recent updates makes Dirk sick) not validating Hal's status as the same as Dirk because Hal needed that validation. But there is clearly something insidious going on that never happened with Davesprite.

I sincerely hope I am wrong about everything in this post, because nothing good is going to come of the scenario as I imagine it. If Lil Hal with his fresh new body really does go skipping over the rainbow, god bless. It'll be much better then what I'm dreading, that's fr sure.

Sprites don't really count as players… Davesprite has no time powers AFAICR, and Jadesprite's "space" ones seemed to be mostly inheritance from Bec.

They count as players for the purpose of God tier revival, don't they? And given Quest Crypts, that just might be enough. (I am imagining Fefetasprite sandwiched between the Slabs of Life and Heart. It is hilarious, and I am a terrible person.)

I agree with Pie about the whole emotional manipulation thing. I just KNEW Lil Hal was going to break out the "I don't want to die, I'm scared" line before I even read it in the pesterlog. Of course he knows exactly how to manipulate human emotions. That's just how evil sentient AI works.

As for Gamzee's machinations, I still don't know what the hell he's up to, but I like the idea that his prototyping antics are an effort to keep his friends' souls out of the dream bubbles, and thus safe from LE's ghostmurderin' rampage.

Yeah, Gamzee dismembered their bodies so that he would have an easier time throwing them into the kernelsprite.

Should be noted pretty much anything Vriska and Tavros are now doing would be pretty impossible (or at the least highly unlikely) had they not been brought together by the horror that was Tavrisprite. The odds of them finding each other like that at random have to be pretty astronomically small.
