I don't know. It might have been around the time Jane was exploring her land, and the tablets with prophesies. Calling them "Nobles" instead of "Heroes". Maybe they couldn't ascend "without divine intervention" (betas)

Welp, I had to go read the wiki to figure out the timeline of Lil' Cal's existence. The problem I see is that if there can only be one of him, then his trip through the defense portals shouldn't have been possible because The Scratch ended up duplicating everything that came out of them by sending them to the other session.
That's what throws me right now... WHAT CAME OUT in place of Lil Cal in the Alpha session?

It seems as though Hussie is using Jane to help address one of the biggest character-development oddities of the first few acts, which was that none of the B1 kids really seemed to give much of a shit that Earth had been razed, and the degree to which they were bothered by their guardians' deaths, oh let's say, "varied".

I'm glad that through Jane, he's choosing to acknowledge, even if only for a fleeting passage, the actual horribleness of the situation.
