More seriously, I could totally see Nepeta having this sort of reaction not just to leprechaun charms, but shipping in general. She puts so much into shipping not fictional characters, but her own friends, even shipping herself. It seems like something that could lead to teenaged drama and heartache, and then she'll grow out of it.

Needless to say teenaged drama and heartache happened having nothing to do with Nepeta's shipping wall so. If it makes her happy I don't see why it has to be something she "grows out of"

Considering how the central theme of Homestuck is change and growth, it's very likely that if Nepeta ever gets to have a resolution to her arc she will egrow out of shipping.

I can think of a bout a billion more important resolutions to her arc that should happen first.
