Oh my god. This just makes everything about trolls so much better.

I can see how they evolve, too! Just like insects. The sections adjust themselves, elongating or squishing down. A great deal of them become the bone structure within the muscle and skin that is the 'developed' trolls. And that protrusion around their head that imitates a skull becomes it!
Of course, there's the cluster of hair there... my guess is it's some sort of bristles of some sort for sensory purposes but considering the fact that it's curly... hmrn.

But HNHNGHG YES.
