As someone who draws all the time can you explain to me why you use the word "anime" as a pejorative in terms of style?

I'm assuming it's just personal taste but yeah.

well saying that something is 'anime' is much more convenient then saying 'big eyed triangular faced oversized headed little girls' or whatever. i dont mean it as in insult and i think anime is fine and dandy and my art still has roots in it. *shrugs* i guess i just considering 'anime' and 'cartoon' as much as a style as anything else.

'anime' is too broad of a term to condense it into just one style. I mean Tetsuo Hara's illustrations differs from Akira Toriyama's who differs from Osamu Tezuka's, who differes from Goseki Kojima, etc. etc.

Yeah people short changing (mainly) Japanese artists and their artistic vision and style as nothing more than large eyes and pointy chins is pretty annoying even if people saying it admit they aren't using the phrase correctly...

go read a volume of Lone Wolf and Cub or Sanctuary and then we can talk about "anime" art e_e

Not meaning to jump down anyone's throat it's just a serious peeve I guess

Well, yeah, I know that. I didn't mean to short change the artists or whatever. Anyway I remember this artist DID draw the stereotypical 'anime' style that i was referring too way back in the day when I first discovered them. Their art was definitely on the kawaii side. I didn't mean to offend you at all!

I guess I just have a tendency to lump art in broad catagories because really, all art is unique. I mean, the same thing goes for other styles. I mean not all surrealists or impressionists draw or paint the same way. But their works have common elements. Anime and Cartoon art tends to have exaggerated features and sharp lines. I mean, not all of them do of course, but, that's just a thing.

I agree with you both and really didn't mean to offend, I was just more or less referring to this artist way back in the day when I and probably them were going through the terrible 'weeaboo' phase. I'm terrible at explaining things and just have a tendency of turning out a bunch of blunt half assed comments. Again, I hope we cool and I apologize to you both.
