At this point I'm just inclined to say that people are implying that Dave had better things to do than participate in a group shot with his friends and just time traveled back to be in it when he was bored.

It's the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense.

Can't Dave use his powers to rewind the meteor itself to a time where it didn't go at about 0,99c? Just rewind the thing itself in its place, without the people on it. Would solve the whole thing pretty easily.
