I haven't been invested in the Madoka fandom so I have no opinion, but I do notice that Jake and Shinji receive a lot of hate in their respective fandoms.

tbh I am a Madoka fan and I haven't really heard about her getting hate, except for a few tumblr posts complaining about her getting hate. So therefore I guess Madoka has been getting a lot of hate.
idk I mean //I'm// not big on Jake but its really just a personal preference. I don't hate him though and I really can't see why people can really LOATHE HIM ENTIRELY. I mean he hasn't really done anything BAD besides being accidentally selfish and kind of dumb.
Its not like he's GAMZEE or anything.

I think a lot of the Jake hate comes from being unintentionally insensitive and self-centered, which coupled with not being overly bright and what's spoken about in the post, a recipe for stardom makes not.

A lot of the Jake hate comes from people being a bit too dim to not realize that maybe being being raised alone on an island with only his grandma (for a time), whose corpse he had to burn so it wouldn't be eaten by wolves isn't the best scenario for developing flawless people skills. And y'all are gonna get on /his/ case for being "not overly bright"?

^It does not help that the few times we've seen and heard of Grandpa, we are led to believe that he's a bonafide badass. When the fandom was first introduced to Jake, there were tons of fanart portraying him as this awesome, ass-kicking adventurer who is a sex-symbol. The more we got to learn about Jake, the more the audience found out he wasn't a super badass the fandom propped him to be at the time of his intro and pre-scratch self. Those type of fanarts started to disappear and the disappointment and hate began.
It also does not help that he seems to be treated as a butt monkey by Hussie.

I wouldn't say that all of them are dim. I would point out it seems strangely inconsistent that you have one character that is realistically messed up in a fantastical setting where many characters act unrealistically, like just strangely shruging off the end of the world, for example.

Jake's biggest crimes are not being what fandom wanted him to be, and yeah being treated poorly by Hussie (join the line Jake my friend), those are seriously the worst things Jake has done.
Hating characters for being human is just really dumb, I'm sorry. It's not even a matter of them being your favorites, or you being insanely fond of them or whatever, that's personal preference as Loppy pointed out while still being understanding of the fact that flaws are human. It's just dumb man, and bless this fanart for poking fun at how dumb it is.

Sorry to jump the rails back to Loppy's track,but I'm still confused about Madoka hate:
specifically, how??? alpha timeline massive success, right?
Anyway good point about the grandpa hype, pretty hard to live up to that; also yeah just the random mistakes and foot-in-mouth accidents that people are prone to I'd say is what he's guilty of.
