Karkat might have functional physique while Equius has both cosmetic AND functional muscle

I don't really get how olympic weightlifters can be so fat and beat out cut bodybuilders who LOOK like they should be winning all weightlifting contests. I know it happens but it just leaves me confused by the human body

Weightlifters work their core muscles and build them for pure strength, while bodybuilders sculpt their purely for aesthetics. Also, weightlifters are heftier because they need stability. If a bodybuilder were to try to lift what weightlifters do, they'd probably tear a lot of muscle because they don't have core ones properly strengthened.

We, as a society, have been told by the media that visible muscles are one of the only signs of physical strength, that's why a lot of people are so amazed when they see someone who is fat win those contests. That's not to say that you can't be both cut and strong, because you can, just that the mega muscle men we see in ads/online/TV/etc aren't the super powerhouses we were told they are.

^exactly, that's something you'd only see in late 19th century early 20th century books (the weightlifters' physique, not like the hyper-muscular bodybuilders, and even moderate workout iron-pumpers, of today.)

I could go into how flexibility isn't limited to thinner people, but that's a whole other topic.

The thumbnail makes Karkat look so weird, but he's pretty cute looking once you get to the full pic.
