Sprites combining kind of reminds me of gem fusion. I wonder if Rebecca managed to rub off on him recently.

Plus, gem fusions seem to be romantic in nature, whereas I highly doubt Dave had romantic feelings for a dead bird but you never know. Erisolsprite, Fefetasprite, and ARquiussprite do remind me a bit more of gem fusions though.
