Speaking as a brony, Saying Gen 1 was better isn't going to ruslte as many jimmies as you would probably like. Gen 1 actually wasn't that bad. (It wasn't that GOOD either, but it had some kick ass villains.)
Gen 3 on the other hand...

IIRC He corrected this comic to include more actual upsetting Homestuck lines such as "I skipped to Act 5".

I believe the point is that the insult is dumb and not directly insulting. But if you feel insulted that he is suggesting that Homestucks consider PS to be far inferior, then I think you are tapping into the second layer of this humor. That is why I like this version better.
