Judging from that response, you haven't seen the movie.
They have a right to be horrified.

That movie just breaks you...pretty much every other scene has something to scar a child.

Different anonymous user here, it's a dark movie, but it's really only depressing as an adult, not really scary as a child, though it occasionally uses that for drama. And especially not every other scene.

As a kid, the Air Conditioner suicide had me hiding behind a couch each time it was on.
Or what happens with the Vacuum? Or Lampy? OR THE TOASTER!?
The zombie appliance parts and the new appliance parts are equally unnerving, but maybe not terribly scary...but the junk yard definitely made my little heart skip several beats every time.
