The Four Generals are named after guanine, cytosine, adenine, and thymine, the four nitrogenous bases in DNA. Who are shortened with their first letters: G, C, A, T.

Each of the Generals also have an theme around the four classical elements. In fact, the second half of their names is shared with a creature of the same element in mythology: sylph, undine, gnome, and salamander (with Thymilph and Cytomander switched, because "Thymander" and "Cytoilph" doesn't roll off the tongue as well).

The B1 kids also have a theme based on the four classical elements. Both the "fire" general and the "fire" kid were were defeated by a guy with pointy shades, but that's probably stretching it for connections.
