Gryffendor prizes bravery chivalry and honor though, traits that much better symbolize Dave's overall character arc.
Not everyone else fits perfect, that's just the least wonky character fitting of the bunch that you randomly picked out.

So...wouldn't Karkat fit more in Hufflepuff or even Slytherin(he seems to value leadership and ambitions) by his own choice than say Gryffendor?

Remember folks, in canon the best student in the year is Gryffindor rather than Ravenclaw and a couple of dumb muscle goons are put in the house of ambition and cunning. Sorting be complicated, because people be complicated.
^^Karkat's dream job was "badass warrior," so I can see him wanting to be in Gryffindor.

Nepeta and Equius being split up bothers me too. Move her to Ravenclaw, she's intelligent and witty.
