It's probably possible to have distinct preferences for each quadrant. Fa as we know Kanaya's only "lesbian" as far as the flushed quadrant goes.
(I also recall e.g. a theory suggesting Sollux to be redrom-straight but blackrom-gay.)

Or the divide could be between flush and pale quadrants
(preferring females for black / red, no preference for pale / ashen for example)

Though it's explicitly said that the trolls do not distinguish by gender at all (Karkat didn't even understand the concept of it) so I always found Kanaya's random "preference" a little odd.

I would think Kanaya is really an exception though, and most trolls are generally open to all genders in their quadrants...

Yeah that's a fair point, giving stated pansexual beings labels of straight and homosexual doesn't make sense whatsoever, but Hussie did kinda fail to make them actually realistically pansexual in a lot of ways which is rather unfortunate.
