There is a kind of cat called 'teacup' that remains the size of a kitten regardless of how old it is. They also have sever problems with dying at an early in their lives due to heart problems. I wager that this is where he teacup part comes from. (what with nepeta dying without having nearly enough screentime in my peoples view)

and of course johns obvious connection to cake.

Thats what i think it is anyway...could just be that someone thought it sounded cute.
